5 Euro - 50 Rand - 5 Pounds - 5 USD Campaign

The Breede Centre believes that many small contributions make a big one! The centre needs support from many of you so that a solid financial base can be build. This is needed to keep realizing the core business of the centre - teaching practical and entrepreneurial skills to young unemployed (and umemployable) people so they can learn to set up their own businesses or find work. Jobs are scarce and they need support to believe in themselves so they can take responsibility for their lives. This in turn effects their family and their community positively. And that is the aim of the Breede Centre!
Friends of the Breede Centre worldwide are spreading this news! Let South Africa also spread the news! THANK YOU.

WE BEGIN GEOMETRY

This work with the group of "challenging" 11 year old boys was so inspiring! So tiring!

I do not know the way ... or where to from here ...for a mathematically gifted child, I watched awakening to his own ability.

I know a little of the way inwards, so I led the group for 4 days. We started each day with a story, then tough stick exercises. At last, for an hour or so, to the beginnings of thinking that is found through Geometry.

The work on the walls grew and grew, soon covering every inch of our space. Rough lines became smooth constructions and rushed mistakes became beauty through accuracy.

The pictures tell the story of our journey.

In this, helpers are my left and right hands. Thank you Rouzann and Marochelle, this work was not possible without you.

On Thursday we ended our 4th day of work together, with a triple flower on a 12 fold circle.

Well done!
Now I shall sleep for a week and dream of our Geometry.

Thank you to Pieter and Dawid who made the sticks for us from cut- down trees. With these smooth and decorated sticks we became warriors beating out battle rhythms, circus people balancing and swinging off a single stick and best of all Japaneses stick fighters -the dream of all 11 year old boys.

...AND NOW I SLEEP!

The Easter Holiday Activities

The Easter Holiday Activities took off today with about 30 children present. After breakfast, the little ones join Helena for story and paly while Gwynn told the story of the Box to the grade 1 to grade 7 children. She then took a group of older boys to sand down sticks to do games with later. Then they sat down to start geometry which requires precision and concentration. One group cut the vegetables for the midday meal and cooked the soup, while the other group did games with Jamie, had a experience session with Judy in the garden and started making Easter crafts. After lunch it was winding down with indoor games and drawing. A satisfying day...
